A avaria do aquecimento
A cold flat, a phone call and a repairman who comes late.
The text you need the words for before you have learned them. It lives on two phrases that carry everything that goes wrong in Portuguese: não funciona and está avariado. And watch ficar in the last sentence — here it means neither “to stay” nor “to be located”, but describes a change: the kitchen gets warm.
Em novembro está frio no apartamento. O aquecimento não funciona há dois dias e não há água quente. A Ana veste um casaco na cozinha.
Ela liga ao senhorio. Ele não responde. Ela deixa uma mensagem: boa tarde, o aquecimento está avariado, o apartamento está muito frio, obrigada por ligar de volta.
À noite ele liga. Pergunta se o esquentador faz barulho. A Ana diz que não. Ele diz que um técnico vem na quinta-feira de manhã, entre as oito e as dez.
Na quinta a Ana espera em casa. Às onze ainda não chegou ninguém. Liga outra vez e o senhorio diz que tem muita pena, que o técnico vem na sexta.
Na sexta o homem chega às nove. Olha para o esquentador e diz que falta uma peça. Trabalha uma hora. Às dez a água está quente e a cozinha fica finalmente morna.
