Frying, baking, chopping, stirring, pots and pans, flour, oil and spices — the words a recipe is written in.

Practise this list

From these 40 words, as many per round as you like — up to all of them: first what is due today, then new ones. First you choose, then you fill the gap, then you write it yourself. Mistakes come back again shortly.

More about this list

A recipe speaks in the imperative, almost always the perfective: pokrój cebulę, dodaj sól, wymieszaj — each step gets done once. So the list gives the imperfective verb with its partner; build the command from the partner. Quantities take the genitive: łyżeczka cukru, szczypta soli, pół kilo mąki. And oil: for frying you use olej, for a dressing oliwa — olive oil is a word of its own, and feminine.
