Greeting, talking, giving opinions
Greetings and introductions, the everyday words of conversation, saying what you think, and the words for ideas.
What holds these lists together
A conversation in Polish begins with a choice: cześć among friends, dzień dobry to everyone else, all day long until the evening. Polite “you” is pan or pani with the verb in the third person — you are talking to “the gentleman” or “the lady”, not to “you”. From there the lists climb from the first greeting through the words that hold every conversation together (chyba, przecież, właśnie) to disagreeing with moim zdaniem and z drugiej strony, and to the abstract nouns without which you cannot talk about anything serious: wolność, przyszłość, odpowiedzialność. Many of them end in -ość, the Polish “-ness” or “-ity”, and all of those are feminine.
For example: cześć (hi; bye), rzecz (thing), cały (whole, all), zdanie (opinion; sentence), wolność (freedom), domek (little house, cottage)
