More about this list
English “friend” is split three ways in Polish: przyjaciel is a close friend, znajomy an acquaintance — though in the plural many people say znajomi where English says “friends” — and chłopak is a boyfriend. Doing something with somebody takes z and the instrumental: kłócić się z bratem, przyjaźnić się z Kasią, dogadywać się z szefem. Some words look like adjectives and decline like them: znajomy, narzeczona, teściowa — so z narzeczoną, not like kobieta.
