Phone, internet and post

Calling, texting, emailing and sending things by post.

A mobile has three everyday names: 휴대폰, 핸드폰 and 스마트폰. A call is made by “hanging” it, 전화를 걸다, answered by “receiving” it, 전화를 받다, and ended by “cutting” it, 끊다. 여보세요 is the hello of the telephone, not of the street. Many internet words are English in Korean sounds — 인터넷, 이메일, 메시지 — while a text message is simply 문자, “letters”.
