Character and behaviour

Many words for character end in -적이다, the Sino-Korean “-ic, -ive”: 적극적이다, 충동적이다, 이기적이다. Before a noun they become -적인 (이기적인 사람), and as an adverb -적으로. Others are adjectives in -하다 or -스럽다, and a few, like 철이 들다, are whole phrases. Calling someone 건방지다 or 버릇없다 is pointed, and is said about people, rarely to them.
