na-adjectives for exact judgement

The na-adjectives that judge a plan, a price, a manner or a situation precisely.

Most na-adjectives at this level are two-kanji words from Chinese, and they bring the register of writing with them: 迅速(じんそく) is the swift of reports, 速(すみ)やか the prompt of notices. A smaller native group ends in 〜やか, and several of them describe a soft, gentle quality — 和(なご)やか, 緩(ゆる)やか, ささやか. Many are used above all as adverbs with に (円滑(えんかつ)に進(すす)む, 着実(ちゃくじつ)に), and 〜的(てき) turns a noun into one (画期的(かっきてき), 一方的(いっぽうてき)). Watch the ones that judge: 安易(あんい) and 露骨(ろこつ) are criticism, where English “easy” and “open” need not be.
