Places in town

Shops, stations, restaurants and the other places a first walk through town passes.

Many place names are built from what happens there and a word for the kind of place: 店(diàn) a shop, 馆(guǎn) a hall or house, 站(zhàn) a stop or station. Once these are known, 书店(shūdiàn), 茶馆(cháguǎn) and 地铁站(dìtiězhàn) explain themselves. Shops and restaurants are counted with 家(jiā), the same word as “home”.
