Home and rooms

The rooms of a home, the things in them, and the words for where something is.

Where something is goes the other way round from English: the thing it is in or on comes first, and the position word after it — 桌子(zhuōzi)上(shang), “table on”; 房间(fángjiān)里(li), “room in”. In speech both 上(shàng) and 里(lǐ) usually lose their tone there. 家(jiā) is both the home and the family who live there.
