Sport: training and competition

Athletes, coaches, scores, medals and the events of a sports meeting.

These are the words around a competition: who trains, who judges, who wins and by how much. A score is read with 比(bǐ), so 2:1 is 二(èr)比(bǐ)一(yī). A sporting record is 纪录(jìlù), written with 纪(jì); the 记录(jìlù) with 记(jì) is a written note. And the crowd does not shout “come on” but 加油(jiāyóu), literally “add fuel”.
