Media and entertainment

Television, papers, films, music, the stage and the people who make them.

Much of this vocabulary is built from parts that keep coming back: 电视(diànshì) gives 电视剧(diànshìjù) and 电视台(diànshìtái), and 演(yǎn), to act or perform, sits inside 演员(yǎnyuán), 导演(dǎoyǎn) and 演出(yǎnchū). Films and series are counted with 部(bù), episodes with 集(jí) and songs with 首(shǒu) — never with a number straight before the noun.
