The stages of education, the school year, subjects, marks and life on campus.
The Chinese school ladder runs 幼儿园, 小学, 初中, 高中 and 大学, and the two middle rungs together are 中学. English “graduate from” has nothing to translate the “from”: 毕业 takes no object, so the school comes first — 大学毕业. Many words for school life are built on 学 and 考: 转学, 退学, 补考, 考上.

报名to sign up; to enrolVerb3

退学to leave school (before finishing); to drop outVerb3
他因为家里没钱,只好退学了。Because his family had no money, he had to drop out of school.
