City life

Town and country, traffic and neighbourhoods: where and how people live.

Chinese cities are divided into 区(qū), districts, and most people live in a 小区(xiǎoqū): a group of apartment blocks behind one gate, with its own guard, paths and small shops. Asked where they come from, many people name their 家乡(jiāxiāng), the place their family is from, rather than the city they live in now.
