Travel and hotels

Booking, luggage, airports and somewhere to stay the night.

Japan has two kinds of place to stay: the Western-style ホテル and the 旅館(りょかん), an inn with tatami rooms where dinner, breakfast and a cotton 浴衣(ゆかた) are usually part of the stay. Many travel words are borrowed from English, so チェックイン and キャンセル will sound familiar — but they are said the Japanese way, and that is the version a clerk will understand.
