Kanji compounds that take する

Two-kanji action nouns from reports, notices and the news, used with する.

Most of these are two-kanji nouns that name an action, and adding する turns each into a verb: 削減(さくげん)する, to cut; 中断(ちゅうだん)する, to interrupt. They are the backbone of notices, reports and the news, where a native verb such as 減(へ)らす would sound too casual. Two habits help: learn the particle each one takes, and learn the noun that usually goes with it — 能力(のうりょく)を発揮(はっき)する, 意見(いけん)を反映(はんえい)する — because the pairing is fixed far more often than in English.
