Hobbies, crafts and music

Knitting and sewing, model-making, painting, board games and playing an instrument.

Many hobby words come as a noun and the verb that does it: 編(あ)み物(もの) and 編(あ)む, 裁縫(さいほう) and 縫(ぬ)う. Instruments are where to watch the verb: English plays all of them, but in Japanese you 弾(ひ)く a string or keyboard instrument, 吹(ふ)く a wind instrument and 叩(たた)く a drum.
