Friendship and relationships
Getting on, falling out, making up.
The list for the people around somebody. Near the end is la pression du groupe, and it is a gap rather than a trap: French has no single word for « peer ». English « peer pressure » names the *people* — those of equal standing, from Latin par, equal — and the word carries that sense on its own everywhere else: « a jury of one’s peers », « peer review », « peer group ». French names the *group* instead, and for the other uses it has to describe the equality each time: un jury composé de ses pairs exists but is legal register, l’évaluation par les pairs is a calque built for academic writing, and les jeunes de son âge is what somebody actually says. So the ordinary English word is the technical French one, and the French everyday phrase replaces the person with the crowd.
