La evidencia objetiva is what an auditor asks for, and Spanish took the word through English to say it. On its own la evidencia is not proof at all: it is obviousness, the state of being plain to anyone — es una evidencia means it goes without saying. And poner a alguien en evidencia is to show that person up in front of others, which has nothing to do with producing documents. The older Spanish for what the auditor wants is la prueba; « evidence » in this list has learned that job only recently.
