The Town Festival

私の住んでいる町では、毎年八月の終わりに小さい祭りがある。今年、私は初めてボランティアとして手伝うことになった。
祭りの前の週末、ボランティアは近くの小学校に集まって、仕事の分け方を話し合った。私は子供向けのゲームの担当になった。
当日は朝から暑かった。木の下で準備をしていると、近所のおばあさんが冷たいお茶を持ってきてくれた。毎年そうしているのだそうだ。
夕方になると、町は浴衣を着た人でいっぱいになった。私の担当したゲームには、思っていたよりずっと多くの子供が並んだ。
夜九時に祭りが終わって、みんなで片付けをした。体はくたくただったが、来年もまた参加したいと思った。
