Italian accounts are kept as le entrate e le uscite, and there le uscite are not doors at all but the money going out — what we call « outgoings » or « expenditure », which is worth having ready in a list this full of budgets. The third belongs to a publisher: l’uscita del rapporto è prevista per giugno says the report comes out in June, where English reaches for « release » or « publication ». A fourth turns up in conversation, where un’uscita infelice is an unfortunate remark rather than a badly placed door. One Italian noun, four English words, and only the first of them has anything to do with leaving a building.
