The words for what happens to your own data. In the middle sits le piratage, and the English cognate points at a different offence. « Piracy » in English is robbery at sea or copying somebody’s work without permission; it never means getting into a system. French le piratage is exactly that and is the ordinary word for it: pirater un compte, un site piraté, and un pirate informatique is what English calls a hacker. The English word that translates it, « hacking », has no French relative at all, and the sense English *does* put under « piracy » — copying a film or a program — is French la contrefaçon. So the visible cognate exists on both sides and names a different crime on each, which is the worst arrangement there is: nothing about the sentence warns you.
