Mistakes English speakers often make

  • Wrong Wie heeft je dit nieuws gevertelt?

Right Wie heeft je dit nieuws verteld?

vertellen begins with ver-, an inseparable prefix, so the participle has no ge-. And the stem vertel ends in l, so the ending is -d: verteld. English “told” has no such prefix to lose.
