B2 · Prepositions
Adjectives and nouns with a fixed preposition
Not only verbs want a preposition — adjectives and nouns do too.
Like verbs, many adjectives pull a fixed preposition after them, and again it rarely matches the English one: estar orgulloso de (proud of), estar interesado en (interested in), estar contento con (pleased with), ser capaz de (capable of).
The same with nouns: la razón de, el interés por, la respuesta a, el miedo a, las ganas de. And the phrase tener ganas de is one of the commonest in the language: Tengo ganas de verte.
Where an infinitive follows, the preposition stays: Estoy cansado de esperar, Es difícil de creer.

Die typisch deutsche Falle
Aufgepasst
The English preposition gets carried over: orgulloso sobre for «proud of» because «on» and «about» feel close. Spanish uses de: orgulloso de. And it is miedo a, not «miedo de», for fear of something in particular.
Adjectives and nouns have their fixed preposition too — and it is rarely the English one.
