The twenty-fourth entry is il supporto visivo, and the noun inside it holds a second job that English gives to a different word altogether. The first job is the one we recognise: il supporto tecnico is technical support, and il supporto di una fondazione is the backing a foundation gives. The second is physical. Il supporto is the thing a text or an image is carried on — the sheet, the disc, the file — and it is the ordinary word for it in every Italian office and every Italian contract. Su supporto cartaceo means on paper; su supporto digitale means in a digital file; il supporto durevole is the phrase consumer law uses for anything a customer can keep and read again. English reaches for « medium », « format » or « copy » at each of those points and never for « support ». So a line offering la stessa relazione su altro supporto promises the same talk in another form, not a second helping hand — and il supporto visivo of this list is the visual aid, the thing the eye is given to carry the words on.
