School subjects and study

The subjects on a Korean school timetable and the words that go with studying them. Korean at school is 국어, “the national language”, while Korean learnt as a foreign language is 한국어. The four kinds of sum are named after what you do: 덧셈, 뺄셈, 곱셈 and 나눗셈 — adding, taking away, multiplying and dividing, each ending in 셈, counting. Many pupils also study after school at a 학원, a private academy.
